Does anyone listen to this weekly podcast?

To date there are 120 episodes.

It's a must-listen for wrestling fans. The guests range from writers to retired wrestlers and indie stars all the way to current WWE superstars and divas and TNA wrestlers and knockouts.

Colt is an engaging host, very funny, and doesn't dominate the discussions as other hosts tend to do. (*cough*Joe Rogan*cough*)
It has a format - his weekly update, a wrestling-themed song, the interview, then he lists his upcoming events.

As he says it's a gateway into the hearts the minds and souls of professional wrestlers. It offers very honest and interesting insights into life on the road from first hand experience.

I have listened to the episodes out of order and started with the guys I knew; but it is sometimes the wrestlers I knew nothing about that are the most interesting. Regal had a two-part episode over the last fortnight which was excellent. I found I liked some people more after "getting to know them" through the podcast like Kofi Kingston. And there are people who are now on NXT or recently signed to developmental (Tyler Black/Sara Del Ray/PAC) who have previously done episodes.

It is a great podcast, worthy of a listen even if you don't like pro wrestling. And I think it might prompt some discussions if people listen to the same podcast and discuss some things that are mentioned in it?

I check 'em out every week to see who's up but not all of them interest me. I'll be honest, I tend to go for the "name" guys.

Stand out episodes probably include Brian Kendrick's just for his weirdness, Petey Williams for his Scott Steiner stories and Hero's for his Claudioisms and the Steiner/Japan/Misawa story.

Kizarny and Gallows were definitely cases, like you said, of liking guys more after getting to know them. Also loved the story of Zack Ryder's dad banging a pot in Gallows face trying to get him to "Festus out" when he met him.

Nattie's was weird cuz I found she REALLY tried to keep kayfabe when Colt's guests usually don't.

Daniel Bryan's and Punk's are great, of course.

I really enjoyed the Beth Phoenix interview. Loved hearing the story about Molly Holly, and Beth seems like such a lovely person. Great baps too.

Daniel Bryan's was quite good he's an incredibly humble guy. Makes me love him even more. He'll eventually become my favourite wrestler when Jericho officially retires.

I started the Kofi podcast on the train today but there wasn't very good mobile coverage so I'll give it another crack tomorrow. Wouldn't mind hearing Petey Williams just for the Steiner stories, I've never really paid attention to a Petey Williams match before, but I can imagine the stories will be hilarious. Dolph's was average, but it's just awesome to hear about how much of a fan they are of the industry, especially when you hear of so many guys that have made it who are not really people who grew up watching it (in particular the female wrestlers).

Actually one thing in particular about the Dolph interview that stands out to me is how ridiculously daft the booking/creative team are described to be. I can't understand how such a massive company has such piss-poor ideas when it comes to storylines and character direction.

I'll have to go back and listen to Dolph's. I enjoyed it because, as you said, he really is a huge fan and it comes across but I'm having trouble remembering instances of them talking about booking/creative specifically.

It's a great peek behind the curtain. They've all got great stories, and I think it's a treat as a fan to listen in. Colt says it himself but feels the guys are happy to talk to him cause he's in the business.

Notable eps for me were Daniel Bryan (doesn't have "gym" credit and so still hasn't passed college!), the Regal two parter, Mick Foley, the Punks ones, also Colt on ep 100 was interviewed himself by Punk - was a nice touch. One of the recent ones was Justin Roberts - interesting to hear him and his dream of being an announcer. Daivari is worth a listen. I was afraid Eugene's would be depressing, and Daffney's was quite sad.

I enjoy them. I prefer it when it's someone I've never heard of, they've usually got a more interesting story to tell. Jamie Dundee this week was pretty good. He must have been caning the drugs, he has the voice of a 70 year old.

I love this podcast because even the episodes that I think are going to bore me to sleep are fascinating. Never knew how much I would love listening to Regal's stories, but I was totally riveted. Even the guys that I've not heard have great road stories. Makes me wish I still paid as much attention to wrestling and had a passion for it as I used to.

I've listened to a bunch of episodes, mainly with the WWE guys. Colt is such a charismatic dude that he really brings great conversation out of his guests.

One of my favourites is Colin Delaney. His story about lucking out into a WWE spot is brilliant.

Yeah, I had to pause it as I got to work, but he spoke with two Aussie wrestlers. A fella by the name of CrackerJak (not a typo) and a 6 foot 1 girlie who wrestles as Sway, who gave up modelling to pursue wrestling. I think Adam Pearce is on the show too but I've never given a faff about him.

Regal's 2 parter was great. Kofi was a fun one. I also liked Truth Martini's a bunch for some reason. I just wish Colt was on a bigger stage (damn you, Goldman) because he generally has fun and is willing to wrestle just for the hell of it.

Ok, I started the thread, and then let it die somewhat; I really enjoyed Pat Buck's from last week. My heart went out to the guy - so much politicking and bullshit, and after years of busting your ass to not get a shot cause of your hair!? Or to be groomed and then overlooked? Just a very harsh wrestling story. I liked his positive attitude though, he feels he's prepared for anything the wrestling world throws at him, and I may start listening to his podcasts too.

This weeks guest is Awesome Kong, and I think she could have some very interesting stories. I will be back to post thoughts on it once I've listened. Feel free to do the same.

loved the Arik Cannon episode. He did the same thing I did growing up. Since the WWF figures couldn't move he used his G.I. Joes in his wrestling ring when he was a kid.

I started listening to all that were in the Stitcher Radio(the latest plus 7 or so). And I can download any episode to my Android phone from the tsmradio site. I started at #1, and just got through the live episode with Shane Helms. I just wish he would do longer episodes like the Regal one. It seems like many of his guests have way more to say than what he gets out of them. So far the Briscoe Brothers has been one of my favorite episodes. Episode 26 FYI.

The Jeremy Borash episode was pretty interesting. It was cool to hear how he.got a morning radio show in his home town, and then used it to make headway into WCW. He discussed his WCW internet show briefly. They finished off talking about the projects that TNA has going. I wouldn't call it a favorite episode, but quite interesting none the less.

I listened to episode 37 today. Colt sits down with Luke Gallows. What a listen. Hilarious stories varying from his time as freakin deacon to fake Kane. Gallows hold little back in the interview, and had me laughing quite a few times. I wish they would have covered Festus a bit more, but maybe in a later interview. If you wanna try this show out, this is a great show to test the waters out with.

Hornswoggle was the guest on this weeks Art of Wrestling.

He talks about

- his growth disorder
- coming back from being paralyzed
- life on the road
- his tatoos
- his love of pro wrestling

I personally don't care one way or another for Swoggle(I did like him giving the FU to Tyson Kidd at the Royal Rumble), but he was a great listen. I do wish Colt would have brought up his hygiene, because Curt Hawkins taked about a week streatch on the road where he nor Kofi witnessed him go into the hotel bathroom to bathe. Otherwise great show.

Just finished episode 51 with Chris Hero. Chris has excellent stories. The one he leaves on is how he asked Misawa if he was gonna suck his dick or what. I just listened to Cliff Compton's 2nd appearance(episode 59 (http://tsmradio.com/coltcabana/2011/09/07/aow-59-domino-nigeria/)). This has been summed up on the animated version a few posts back. I have been holding off listening to it because I enjoyed the animated short so much.

The full story is a must listen. Even if you don't watch wrestling much anymore, the story alone is worth the time invested. The match he has with the Great Power Uti is such an amazing event. All the respect in the world for Uti for the ability to take multiple groin shots and no-sell them. Fuck the Nigerian Hogan, he's their Nigerian John Cena. Doesn't sell a fucking thing. Not even the shows apparently.

Just listened to Hornswoggle's this morning. Actually humanised him lots. I'm one of the types that doesn't enjoy him at all, and while I don't send malicious tweets or anything, it is harsh that a guy doing a job he loves and always wanted to do is getting such abuse from people. As Colt said, there needs to be more positivity about the things you like rather than negativity about the things you don't. And he does serve a purpose. Kids love him. Like we had colourful characters of the 80s, he does get a huge reaction from kids. Swoggle > Khali. I know it's not much, but it's a start.

I appreciated how he didn't want to be the clichéd midget wrestler, biting asses and what not, although I think he has done in the past; and it was interesting that he applied for the doomed Juniors division. In a way, it's impressive how long he has been in the company. He and Finlay were great together, so I would have liked a few more stories about that pairing, but I *loved* how he fell asleep under the ring once! Brilliant stuff.

Have Borash's lined up now for today. Prob listen to it while I cook dinner. Looking forward to it, as I like hearing how wrestling fans who don't have the attributes to be wrestlers get into the biz. I really liked Justin Roberts' podcast, so hope Borash's is similar in interesting road to wrestling gig.

last night I listened to the Johnny Gargano episode(episode 132 (http://tsmradio.com/coltcabana/2013/01/31/aow-132-johnny-gargano/)). I don't get to watch Dragon Gate USA, so while I've heard of Johnny Gargano, I'm not really familiar with him. Very interesting listen. He talks about getting trained very young. His father owning a restaruant, and bar. Why he doesn't drink. His passion for the business, his first impressions with Dragon Gate, and much more.

Also Colt leads in with an update about what He and Marty DeRosa are doing. They are working on new material, but it won't be "Creative Has Nothing For You". It will be a new project, and they hope to have it out by the end of the month. He said they kinda exahusted the Creative skits, and they have ideas for different things.

I listened to the latest interview with Reckless Youth. (episode 133 (http://tsmradio.com/coltcabana/2013/02/07/aow-133-reckless-youth/)) He taks about his love for independent pro wrestling. I don't think that Colt understands that Reckless doesn't give a shit about the WWE(WWF at the time). Reckless got tryouts, but saw WWF as a way to make more money, and get his face out there a bit. He didn't like what was there, and didn't like what was being offered to him when he started there. Reckless also talks about the music challenge he had with a few fellow wrestlers in the Indies years ago. Good listen as always. The time goes real quick.

I wish Colt could or would go on a bit longer. He could cut more episodes into two parts like the Regal one. There are tons of guys that seem like they want to say so much more. Maybe its a time constraint issue. I duno.

Plus there might be a new segment. Colt's mom or grandmother(didn't quite catch which) read a famous promo. Terry Gordy from AJPW in 1983
"JAPAN... NUMBER ONE!! FOREVER!! ...FOREVER!! ...FOREVER!!" I hope it becomes a regular segment, because the possiblities are endless.

-breaking into the business
-insight to the British wrestling scene when Williams was getting interested in the business.
-working for ROH, and TNA/Impact
-likes and dislikes about being a trainer.

Give it a listen.

His Scotty voice is great too. I really wanted to hear more about Petey's training at the start, but they dove into the Scotty stories right off. I really enjoyed listening to the Chris Masters edition on my drive to the office this morning. You get the sense that he really does love the business (growing up loving guys like Warrior and being teased for it during the Hart/HBK days prior to the Austin-Attitude era) and really turned his life around prior to getting released.

Recently I listened to Gallows but yesterday I also gave the Cabana 100th edition hosted by Punk a shot, which was hilarious (getting death stares from Cena)... but after watching youtube matches with Colt I've never understood why he's never been given a real shot with the company, especially with the mega-success of CM Punk over the last two years.

Might give the Hornswaggle one a crack on the way home, thanks for driving this thread Rick.

Also listened to the one with Sinn Bodhi (Kizarny) 'cuz I've always liked the guy. Pretty interesting. And I listened to the 100th episode with Punk which was just terrific. The Rick suggested I check out the start of the Foley episode where they (Punk, Cabana, Domino) talk about Boogeyman, so I did and it was well worth it but in the end, it just made me hope Cabana would actually get Boogeyman himself on the show someday.

I enjoy the podcast every time I listen to it. Cewsh, you're right in that Colt typically comes across as kind of ill prepared and awkward, but I think that part of that comes with not necessarily having a broadcast background. Most "professional" sounding podcasts are by guys who used to be in radio in some format (see the "WTF" pod, basically anything with Adam Carolla, a few smaller profile ones I listen to including Big O & Dukes and the Mike O'Meara Show - guys who are/were radio/broadcast professionals pre-podcasting). I think that's where Colt's show struggles. But in his defense, the stories save that, and he has gotten much much better in comparison to earlier podcasts. He "um"ed and "uh"ed and stammered his way through them at first, but he's gotten 100 times better as he's grown more and more accustomed to the podcast.

Cewsh

The latest episode really points to what Cewsh was talking about. The latest episode was taped live in Austin(episode 136). Colt really should have used separate microphones for himself, the guests, and maybe one towards the crowd. In stead it sounds like it was recorded from a solitary mic, and sounds like absolute crap. Jimmy Jacobs comes on, and has good stories, but the audio quality is so very poor. The episode has some very entertaining parts, but can be a bit much to get through. As much as it pains me to say this, this weeks episode is missable.

-asking for his release.
-his love of Japan

Alright so I've listened to some of the recent shows.

Episode 145 Prince Devitt (http://tsmradio.com/coltcabana/2013/05/01/aow-145-prince-devitt/)
http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/p480x480/578217_364749633560718_1124941982_n.jpg
Colt sits down and they talk about Japan, and how Devitt got there. They talk about certain things they look forward to when coming over to Japan. Colt also talks about trying to bring him into ROH, and it falling through.

Episode 144: Million Dollar Man (http://tsmradio.com/coltcabana/2013/04/24/aow-144-the-million-dollar-man/)
https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcStj5-B7n_ETvZVpFOrraJ8Lht4KBZMyXItcpH1CcYbfamqdSS-vg
Colt and Ted discuss how Ted grew up in the business, and how much respect had to do with sinking or swimming in the industry at that time. Ted talks about how the "Million Dollar Man" gimmick came about, and what ideas Vince had for it. Ted talks about living the lifestyle thanks to Vince, but then getting caught up in the demons a bit. This was what the Hillbilly Jim interview should have been.

Episode 143: Kyle OReilly (http://tsmradio.com/coltcabana/2013/04/17/aow-143-kyle-oreilly/)
http://blogofhonor.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/oreilly.jpg?w=630
Kyle OReilly is a new up and coming wrestler. He is on Colt's radar, and thus Colt sits down with him. The hows and whys of his beginning in the business are discussed. They talk about road travel, and the loves and hates that it brings

I listened to the Harry Smith one on the way into work.

I love hearing about the Cowboy hat and how it came into play, and how he didn't really give a rip about how it came across because he realised he was winding down in WWE. I hope his MMA career takes off as he seems like a genuinely decent person, if perhaps a little lazy in the way he went about in his WWE career. Just looking at interviews, it seems like he expected to be pushed rather than worked to do so. In this particular one he mentioned that he very rarely spoke to Vince and it seems like as long as he was tagging with Kidd, he was content.

That's a bit of an unfair assessment I suppose, still, good interview :)

Ringo

He's clearly been working hard on his ring work since leaving the company and has impressed me both in New Japan and the indies. I fully expect him to be back in WWE before too long. He's only 27 which is mad. Debut at 14.

The Ciampa episode is great. Starts off with him telling the story of his appearance as Muhammed Hassan's lawyer on Smackdown where he got tombstoned by The Undertaker. Apparently the segment was really important because it came right after the terrorism stuff and UPN had threatened to cancel their contract so Ciampa was in there reading this scripted apology and they told him to make sure it came across as sincere. As Colt pointed out, kind of odd that they'd pick a random 20 year old independent wrestler to do it rather than you know, Vince or something. He also said Stephanie gave him a tour of the arena and was basically the nicest person you can imagine.

Later on he goes into detail about his troubles after getting fired from developmental. Got into drugs and tried to kill himself, eventually deciding to continue with wrestling and make a real go of it which led to ROH etc.

Also searched for some promos because I didn't think I'd ever really seen him talk in ROH. He's always had a mouthpiece. This is good:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUWFqIwELAw

Hope he makes it back to WWE, could well happen given they are obviously looking to ROH for new talent already.

Yes, first pic after I bought his shirt, second after I changed into it. Third hours later when I came up and bought his Wrestling Road Diaries DVD and a $10 signed poster. No enthusiasm was lost because of me, who gave the man $50 for the 3 photos, I even apologized and said it was because I didn't expect to see him again anytime soon. He never comes to FL. Tbf, Colt has said multiple times on his podcast that he loves having fans come to him for pictures & autographs. I think in episode 100 of AOW, where Punk interviews Colt, Cabana talks about how he wishes he got the same attention as Punk. When you're an indie guy, you should be pretty happy when someone wants to take a picture with you, especially if they've bought your merch. The picture costs the wrestler nothing, but the merch purchase could be the difference between being able to afford your light bill or not.

The Miz episode(160 (http://tsmradio.com/coltcabana/2013/08/14/aow-160-the-miz/)) was great. He seemed quite candid quite a bit of the time. One of my favorite points was his father's fandom. It didn't start until Miz went to the WWE, and his fandom is that of the common man. Miz's father has no placement of characters and history past the greater characters. Upon trying to give his son some advice to get "over", he tells Miz to do the flip that Evan Borne does. I had a nice jog while listening to the episode.

Yeah, it was really great.

I was one of those people who hated The Miz when he was on Tough Enough and then when he was host of RAW but I think it was around the time he gave that great promo to MVP that I started to become a believer.

I marked out like crazy when he won the wwe title on RAW.

Hopefully some of the haters will listen to the podcast and see how he's not as douchey as he first appears.

Definitely going to give Miz a listen. Should be interesting.

Would love it if Colt had Goldust or The Boogeyman on sometime.

The Miz one was fantastic. I know he's in "corporate" mode here, but he really seems to not even mind doing what he's currently doing. I'm sure his body appreciates the time to heal anyway. I loved Miz in the main event and wouldn't mind seeing him there again. The thing with Miz, though, is that he's gotta be heel and he's gotta have somebody with him. He was best with Morrison, Big Show, Riley, and Truth, but on his own...ehhh.

I feel like Miz could do on his own at this point. He's really improved immensely, and I loved everything he did as a heel, but having a lackey is always a nice touch. I dunno, I say give him a shot without anyone backing him up, letting him do his thing to his fullest ability, and if it gets a bit stale, add a lackey.

I do understand some people's problems with Colt's interviewing skills(or lack thereof). It generally doesn't get in my way of enjoying his shows though. There are a few shows here and there, where just a few communications classes could have helped keep the show tighter and more fluid. I don't know if that would kill some of the spontaneity, and spark that the show seems to have.

Episode 161: Grado (http://tsmradio.com/coltcabana/2013/08/21/aow-161-grado-2/)

http://wrestleshark.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/336216_4685088010875_536423962_o.jpg?w=220&h=300

Wow. Very entertaining from start to finish. He has such a love of what he does, and for the host Colt Cabana. He goes into breaking into wrestling, and the cult following in Glasgow for ICW. He talks about entertaining people with wrestling, and being entertained by wrestling. Towards the end he reveals how he picked his name. Now Colt isn't always the quickest on the take, and for this show I think it helped. I understood Grado the whole time, but when he started to speed up he would lose Colt. Colt would have to question him, and it slowed him down. It was never a problem for me, but you could tell Grado was nervous at points and would speed up. Good Stuff.

And because of the podcast, I'm watching this...

That's pretty much what I sound like. He's from the same area as me and he goes out with a wee ginger bird that was a couple of years below me at school. Pretty sure he's the same age as me too but due to the rampant religious segregation in the West of Scotland, we went to different schools.

Stone Cold Steve Austin is one of, if not, the most popular wrestlers of all time. Now, hes hanging out with Colt, talking shop like its no big deal. From WWF merchandise records to moving the fork lift, Steve makes for a great podcast. Oh Hell Yea!

I usually don't listen to the live podcast of Colt's, but I was recommended to go back a few weeks and check out the Keighley England episode. So fucking funny. Episode 182 (http://tsmradio.com/coltcabana/2014/01/15/aow-182-keighley-england-live/)has Colt sitting down with previous guests Chuck Taylor, and Adam Cole. They share some funny road stories, and some inside secrets. Chuckie T shares his favorite thing to do on Twitter. It might involve Darren Young.

Go listen to it.

I'm right now listening to the Quackenbush podcast. Interesting so far. No official comment until I finish it.
