New DC Universe fighting game made by Ed Boon and Netherealm Studios. It plays like Mortal Kombat, and while Fatalities have been left out for obvious reasons they have turned that focus towards the "Arenas", making them incredibly interactive and unique for different characters. Game looks fucking awesome and how can you not love the DC characters?

It does look freakin sweet, but just like with DC vs Mortal Kombat a few years back I can't help but wonder why if not kick out the actual super heroes if you plan on letting Batman bring half your goddamn cast. Look at the confirmed cast so far eleven confirmed characters of which six are parts of Batman's story. It seems to be that especially if you branch out into Green Arrow's villains and team mates that it's easier to get a full cast that way than contrive some reason why the guys with super powers aren't curb stomping the ones that do.

Then if you really want to you can make a game with the more powerful guys and Batman can *gasp* sit out a game because he's not winning a fist fight with Supes. It's not like there aren't enough super heroes to present a perfectly acceptable cast, you might have to stretch a little to get villains that people are familiar with but oh well.

If the game is as good as Mortal Kombat is then it's gonna be a good game, hopefully they find away around some of the repetitiveness of 9 (I swear those x-ray attacks were INCREDIBLE the first dozen times I saw them, acceptable the next dozen times and after that I was like, goddamn it will you hurry this along a bit?) but still damn good game.

To be fair the villain cast of the Batman universe is hands down the most recognizable and iconic of any DC entity. I do agree with you that if they're gonna make this DC and not Batman they should at least make a conscious effort to spread further into the other superheroes cannons.

The idea of just leaving Batman out altogether though is absurd. I know on paper he shouldn't be able to beat Superman in a fist fight (nobody should) but considering this is all fantasy superheroes I don't think it's too much to ask to suspend belief and use your imagination just a bit.

The Batman Cast, both villain and otherwise (especially if you only consider combatants) is second to none. Wonder Woman has really nobody, Green Lantern has Sinestro and maybe Star Sapphire. Flash has nobody. Green Arrow has nobody he doesn't share with Bats. Hell depending on when you grew up Robin has more memorable villians than Arrow. Just make it Batman.

Batman sitting out really isn't absurd. Most JLA stories involve him doing something awesome but something that wasn't part of the main fight. He can sit one out, and it's not that absurd. Supes for as bad ass as he is if someone tells me that Wonder Woman is magic and that's what's giving her the extra push needed I'm not going to argue she's always presented as being roughly on par anyway. Batman can be part of the story without being a playable character can't he? It's not like anybody else gets their own games really ever and definitely recently. Bats get his love.

And it's not just suspending belief, well I guess it is but you're suspending a lot of belief here for no good reason. I mean I get that Batman has planned for all of this and all the opponents are weakened by something he did. I can almost buy that Nightwing did the same. But unless the story is what if we threw a fight and everybody came I have to believe that Catwoman, Harley Quinn and the Joker all had plans? Is that really harder than getting Slade, Deadshot, Clayface and Batgirl to replace the people who should be curb stomping HALF the roster by throwing eye lashes at them?

Brainiac, Metallo, Darkseid, Zod, Bizarro. Flash could conceivably fight Gorilla Grodd and his minions. Aquaman would be tricky since he's, well, Aquaman.

I'm sure I could google up some more villains if I wanted. For a fighting game this gets a little sausage fest if Batman steps out. I'd like to see the Furies, especially if Darkseid is in the game and who else in all of DC has the qualifications to be the last boss? Gorilla Grodd would be an excellent choice. There are certainly worse ways to be introduced to the public than in a quality video game but these. I mean perhaps I just had a funky childhood but Robin was the only member of the Teen Titans I knew going into that show, I don't think it's a radical stretch to at least partially credit that show with Deathstroke the Terminator AKA Slade getting on the map.

I think I would have taken Star Sapphire over Sinestro and I'm shocked that no Gorilla (aren't there like 3 evil super smart DC Gorillas?) made the list. Maybe throw in Ares or Hercules, or some magic user who's name doesn't start with Z. Anybody know what the creepy kid with the cat's name is?

I feel like the controls are a bit of a hybrid between Mortal Kombat and Marvel vs Capcom. It's' not the pure button mashing style like MvC, but I don't find it to be anywhere near the pain in the ass that most Mortal Kombat games can be. It definitely took some getting used to. Shockingly enough, the tutorial was actually pretty helpful.

1. Black Canary

Being one of the foremost martial arts experts in the superhero world, Dinah Lance is well suited to a fighting game. Her signature "canary cry", a supersonic scream, makes her a well rounded and unique combatant.

2. Vixen

Another unique entry, Vixen possesses a totem that bestows upon her the abilities of animals. She can be as fast as a cheetah, as strong as an elephant, she can fly like a hawk, spit like a cobra, shock like an eel and dig like a mole. An energy field in the shape of the animal she's imitating will often appear. Coupled with her hand to hand fighting she's a no brainer.

3. Martian Manhunter

A fan favorite and Justice League stalwart, Martian Manhunter's density alteration, shape shifting, invisibility, super breath and mental powers offers a unique buffet of meta human powers, in addition to being a flying brick. He's an obvious choice.

4. Plastic Man

One of the wackier superheros in the DC universe, Plastic Man's ability to stretch and form his body into any shape coupled with his offbeat comical attitude make him a fun character to have in any fighter.

5. Starfire

A popular member of the Teen Titans, Starfire brings the energy attacks. A unique personality and her flying brick status make her an excellent entry for a fighter. Plus she could use some positive exposure after the "Red Hood and the Outlaws" debacle.

6. Black Manta

Aqua Man's arch nemesis, think of Black Manta as an evil Iron Man. His powered exoskeleton and arsenal of harpoons, torpedoes and lasers make him an enemy not to be underestimated.

7. Gorilla Grodd

One of Flash's most prominent villains, Grodd is a hyper intelligent ape with vast psionic powers and advanced technology. He comes from Gorilla City, a city full of, um, gorillas who got their intelligence from magic space rocks. Flash villains are weird, but who wouldn't want to play as an evil gorilla mastermind with telekinesis?

8. Darkseid

Probably the best thing to come out of the New Gods series, Darkseid remains a frequent foe of both Superman and Wonder Woman. A consummate badass and popular godlike adversary, any ten list would be remiss without his inclusion.

9. Cheetah

One of Wonder Woman's recurring foes in several different incarnations, Cheetah is a force to be reckoned with. The Barbara Ann Minerva version brings a sheer viciousness and utter animalistic brutality to the villainess, setting her apart from the likes of Catwoman and Vixen. She's practically a Werewolf.

10. Atrocitus

While the Green Lantern's ring is powered by willpower, and the yellow lantern ring of Sinestro is powered by fear, the Red Lantern ring is powered by pure rage. His super strength and rage filled applications of the ring set him apart from Hal and Sinestro. His moveset has the potential to be absolutely chaotic, barbaric and merciless.

I tried the demo and quite enjoyed this. I kinda liked the last Mortal Kombat, except I found some of the stuff offputting and wasn't a fan of the MK style. This seems more laid back and having DC characters mean that everything isn't vile and infantile.
