Well, this might be a bad idea because I'm aware of how many non-Americans/Canadians are on this board but it seems like there might be enough people that use Netflix that it maybe warrants it's own thread.

Plus, I get tired of spamming the VIP thread talking about every new release.

I'm not sure what the difference is between the American/Canadian librarys that Netflix has so if I post something and you Canadians don't have it, sorry.

Maybe one of you could work on an Canadian list. :dunno:

If you have any TV Shows/Movies to add to the list please go ahead. I welcome the help.

http://blog.netflix.com/2011/09/explanation-and-some-reflections.html

So I just found out that Netflix is branching into two companies and the DVD by mail company is being renamed to Qwikster. At least they will finally have Video Games.

Website: http://www.qwikster.com/

Quote from Netflix blog:

Many members love our DVD service, as I do, because nearly every movie ever made is published on DVD, plus lots of TV series. We want to advertise the breadth of our incredible DVD offering so that as many people as possible know it still exists, and it is a great option for those who want the huge and comprehensive selection on DVD. DVD by mail may not last forever, but we want it to last as long as possible.

I also love our streaming service because it is integrated into my TV, and I can watch anytime I want. The benefits of our streaming service are really quite different from the benefits of DVD by mail. We feel we need to focus on rapid improvement as streaming technology and the market evolve, without having to maintain compatibility with our DVD by mail service.

So we realized that streaming and DVD by mail are becoming two quite different businesses, with very different cost structures, different benefits that need to be marketed differently, and we need to let each grow and operate independently. It’s hard for me to write this after over 10 years of mailing DVDs with pride, but we think it is necessary and best: In a few weeks, we will rename our DVD by mail service to “Qwikster”.

We chose the name Qwikster because it refers to quick delivery. We will keep the name “Netflix” for streaming.

Qwikster will be the same website and DVD service that everyone is used to. It is just a new name, and DVD members will go to qwikster.com to access their DVD queues and choose movies. One improvement we will make at launch is to add a video games upgrade option, similar to our upgrade option for Blu-ray, for those who want to rent Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 games. Members have been asking for video games for many years, and now that DVD by mail has its own team, we are finally getting it done. Other improvements will follow. Another advantage of separate websites is simplicity for our members. Each website will be focused on just one thing (DVDs or streaming) and will be even easier to use. A negative of the renaming and separation is that the Qwikster.com and Netflix.com websites will not be integrated. So if you subscribe to both services, and if you need to change your credit card or email address, you would need to do it in two places. Similarly, if you rate or review a movie on Qwikster, it doesn’t show up on Netflix, and vice-versa.

There are no pricing changes (we’re done with that!). Members who subscribe to both services will have two entries on their credit card statements, one for Qwikster and one for Netflix. The total will be the same as the current charges.

We will let you know in a few weeks when the Qwikster.com website is up and ready. It is merely a renamed version of the Netflix DVD website, but with the addition of video games. You won’t have to do anything special if you subscribe to our DVD by mail service.

For me the Netflix red envelope has always been a source of joy. The new envelope is still that distinctive red, but now it will have a Qwikster logo. I know that logo will grow on me over time, but still, it is hard. I imagine it will be the same for many of you. We’ll also return to marketing our DVD by mail service, with its amazing selection, now with the Qwikster brand.

Some members will likely feel that we shouldn’t split the businesses, and that we shouldn’t rename our DVD by mail service. Our view is with this split of the businesses, we will be better at streaming, and we will be better at DVD by mail. It is possible we are moving too fast – it is hard to say. But going forward, Qwikster will continue to run the best DVD by mail service ever, throughout the United States. Netflix will offer the best streaming service for TV shows and movies, hopefully on a global basis. The additional streaming content we have coming in the next few months is substantial, and we are always working to improve our service further.

I want to acknowledge and thank our many members that stuck with us, and to apologize again to those members, both current and former, who felt we treated them thoughtlessly.

Both the Qwikster and Netflix teams will work hard to regain your trust. We know it will not be overnight. Actions speak louder than words. But words help people to understand actions.

Yep.

Its actually terrific news, since the DVD business is going to plummet for various reasons and now they'll devote more resources to the streaming, which is all i'd ever use anyway.

I think this is actually a great idea. I really only use the Netflix streaming service, and it was always frustrating to be looking for a certain show, movie, or wrestling event,a nd finding out they had it, but only as a DVD rental.

Since it seems the companies are still affiliated ownership-wise, part of me thinks that actually won't be occurring, as to keep business stronger for the DVD by Mail service, but eventually that will probably fade out and the focus will begin shifting even more to the stream service.

I just cancelled my Netflix. I'm thinking of trying out Amazon Prime, since they have streaming as well. It's cheaper in the long run than Netflix.

My Recommended TV Shows
24 (Seasons 1-8)
Jack Bauer is a Counter Terrorist Unit agent who works to prevent terrorist plots. Each Season represents one day in the life of Jack Bauer. Great show. It might start to get a little to over the top for you around Season 7 or so but I'm a completionist so I watched the whole series.

30 Rock (Seasons 1-4)
Tina Fey is the head writer of a fictional sketch comedy show. A really good comedy. Tina Fey is great. I plan on watching Season 5 after it comes to Netflix on the 1st.

Archer (Season 1)
A surprisingly good animated comedy about spies and global espionage.

Arrested Development (Seasons 1-3)
A great comedy that was canceled way too soon. I'm just sad I didn't know about it when it was still airing.

Breaking Bad (Seasons 1-3)
Fantastic drama about a high school science teacher who gets cancer and teams up with an ex-student to make Meth to pay the bills. One of the best TV shows still airing in my opinion.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Seasons 1-7)
I could never get into Angel but Buffy is great. The title is pretty self explanatory.

Dead Like Me (Seasons 1-2)
A show about a girl who dies and becomes a grim reaper. Another show canceled before it's time. Never ever watch the movie though.

Doctor Who (2005) (Seasons 1-5)
The reboot of the classic British series. There's no need to watch any of the earlier stuff to understand what is going on. This is the perfect place to start to be caught up to where they are plot-wise now.

Friday Night Lights (Seasons 1-4)
Must watch TV in my opinion. The sports aspect of it really isn't even the focal point. The focal point is how the players and coaches interact with each other and their families along with their trials and tribulations.

Lie To Me (Seasons 1-2)
Another good show that was canceled before it's time. Tim Roth is a great actor and is mesmerizing as Dr. Cal Lightman a man who can read micro-expressions and tell when someone is lying. Hopefully Netflix gets Season 3 soon.

Party Down (Seasons 1-2)
Another to add to the long list of shows that shouldn't have been canceled. A great comedy about a catering company and the people who work for it.

Parks and Recreation (Seasons 1-2)
A comedy about Leslie Nope and her team at the Parks and Recreation department in a fictional town in Indiana. It has a really great ensemble cast but in my opinion Aziz Ansari's character Tom Haverford, is the best character.

Rescue Me (Seasons 1-5)
A very gritty drama about the personal and professional lives of a group of New York City firefighters. The main character is a self-centered alcoholic who lost his best friend and cousin when he went into the 2nd tower and never came out and who sees his cousin and other lost loved ones as visions when he gets drunk.

Samantha Who? (Seasons 1-2)
A good comedy featuring Christina Applegate. Samantha loses her memory after a hit and run and learns what a horrible person she used to be after waking up from a coma and then sets out on making amends to the people she hurt.

Scrubs (Seasons 1-9)
One of my favorite comedies ever. The show follows a team of doctors as they advance from interns to residents (through the seasons) and the wacky antics they get into. Notable for the main characters often hilarious surreal daydreams.

Sons of Anarchy (Seasons 1-2)
In my opinion a highly underrated drama. I can't think of a good description so I'm stealing Wikipedia's. Sons of Anarchy is about the lives of a close-knit outlaw motorcycle club operating in Charming, a fictional town in Northern California. The show centers on protagonist Jackson "Jax" Teller (Charlie Hunnam), the Vice President of the club who begins questioning the club and himself.

The Office US (Seasons 1-6)
A comedy that stars Steve Carell in his breakout role as Michael Scott the awkward, weird manager of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company who means well but always seems to get himself into trouble.

Weeds (Seasons 1-5)
A show about a Mom who decides to sell Marijuna after her husband dies, to support her struggling family. It starts out as a comedy but later turns into a 20 minute drama. Many people feel it went downhill after season 4.
I'll do movies later.

Weeds died a hero at the end of season 3. It was beautiful and perfect. They've been Weekend at Bernie's-ing it ever since.

And really, anyone who has not seen Breaking Bad should at least give it a shot. Watch the first 3 episodes and if you're not hooked, I don't know what to say.

Everyone should watch The Universe. Marvelous show.

I also tend to watch a lot of documentaries on Netflix and have even been known to search "nova" and their shows. One of the best bits of Netflix is that it learns what you like and tries to make suggestions based on that. I've ended up with a lot of cool docs that way and other random things I never knew existed.

And Weeds did die at the end of season three. That little show, the show I loved, never came back at all.

Atty, there's an excellent documentary about the domesticated dog and the eugenics and selective breeding behind developing breeds. It's really interesting, especially if you're a dog person. I love the huge selection of old PBS and National Geographic shows.

I don't know what I'd do without Instant. My most recent views are Psych, Firefly, Lethal Weapon 2, and Hobo with a Shotgun. HWAS is fucking incredible.

me and a my roommate watched weeds like crazy when we got a wii for netflix, and funny enough we just stopped watching it after the end of season 3 and never had the inclination to watch it further. really did love those 3 seasons though, guess there's not much reason to watch further.

im unduly excited about advent of frasier. one of my favorite shows to mindlessly watch multiple episodes of in a row.

Edward Scissorhands is a quality film. I remember seeing it in the theaters. I will definitely re-watch this on streaming.

edward scissorhand is rubbish just like the rest of burtons pants films.

Edward Scissorhands and the Batman films are the only ones I enjoy of his. Sleepy Hollow was ok, but the rest I can't get into.

Greed

Scissorhands, Big Fish, Batman (arguably not), and Pee Wee's Big Adventure...the only Burton Films worth anything.

Jimmy Zero
November 16th, 2011, 1:07 PM
Big Fish was HORRIBLE, I thought. Pee Wee and Beetlejuice are his only good movies.

Greed
November 16th, 2011, 1:50 PM
It's more pretentious than it should be, but it's different from a lot of Burton films, does not star Depp, and has great acting performances all around...Beetlejuice is good too...

Jacknife
November 16th, 2011, 2:31 PM
Johnny Depp is the most overrated actor of our time.

MikeHunt
November 16th, 2011, 2:33 PM
Bale, Ledger and Damon are far more overrated than Depp.

Greed
November 16th, 2011, 2:41 PM
I don't see Depp getting backlash for his bad films, except for here, where Damon does not get the overall critical acclaim that Bale and Depp get.

Meanwhile, Ledger was never rated that high on anyones best actor list until he played the Joker, and he was absolutely robbed of an Oscar for Brokeback Mountain.

MikeHunt
November 16th, 2011, 2:46 PM
depp got pounded for Alice in Wonderland and Charlie, im pretty sure there is more but can't think of them off the top of my head.

EDIT: From Hell there is another.

Greed
November 16th, 2011, 2:53 PM
From Hell was really great. Heather Graham is bad in it though...

The 9th Gate sucked, and the Libertine was about the worst POS I've ever seen in theaters.

Alice was bad on all accounts, but it has a lot of people who liked it a lot.

MikeHunt
November 16th, 2011, 3:01 PM
critically poor reception for all those films.
and each of them bar from hell, (only like this because of the book and a small obsesive issue with jack the ripper) are shite.

The live action Tick has been on Instant for ages. Still, what a great show. Too bad there's only like 9 episodes.

The first couple of seasons of Burn Notice are awesome, but it goes downhill awfully fast in the later seasons.

Looking forward to catching up on White Collar. That's a solid show.

http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/11/18/arrested-development-netflix/

The Bluth family’s new comedy adventures will be available exclusively through the video service starting in the first half of 2013. Why, that’s like getting unlimited juice.
“After a long hiatus, I’m dying to finally get back to the narrator’s microphone,” said executive producer and series narrator Ron Howard. “Of all the projects we’ve been involved with over the years, we probably get more questions about Mitch Hurtwitz’s brilliant Arrested Development than any other — everyone, ourselves included, seems to feel like the Bluths left the party a bit too soon. Bringing a series back from cancellation almost never happens, but then, Arrested always was about as unconventional as they get, so it seems totally appropriate that this show that broke the mold is smashing it to pieces once again.”

Twentieth Century Fox Television and Imagine Television will produce the new episodes of the show. How many episodes? That’s not been announced yet.
Will all the cast members return? That’s not been announced either — no contracts have been finalized, we’re told. But certainly previous statements by the producers and cast indicate that everybody is, in theory, on board.
Will there still be the long-rumored movie? Also unclear. But if you’re getting the show back, and on service like Netflix that won’t presumably have any content restrictions anyway (unlike during the show’s original three-season run on Fox) — do we even need a movie?

:panic:

Super 8 is on there now? I'm going to have to add that.

And Wilfred is great, but don't need to watch it on Netflix. I watched it when it first came on and is currently watching Season 2.

For an older show, and still one of my favorites, Sports Night is a great 30 minute sitcom written by Aaron Sorkin, pre-West Wing. To me, outside of West Wing, it's still the best thing he's ever done.

I've been watching The West Wing on Netflix lately. I saw an episode here and there when it was on Channel 4 or something back in the day, but never really followed it. After loving The Newsroom I put it in my list but only watched the pilot, thought it was kinda meh, and didn't go back for ages. Gave it another shot and I couldn't tell you how many episodes are the most I've watched on the trot, it's just so watchable I'm not even counting at times. I'm in the midst of the third season and it's starting to lose a little steam, probably a combination of the novelty finally wearing off and the writing getting a bit awkward as they try to deal with September 11th sort of happening but not, yet I still love all the characters. That basically never happens, in all these 90s-style ensemble casts there's always one or two I find incredibly annoying or just plain boring. I always hated Worf episodes in TNG, for instance, never found the character particularly interesting compared to the likes of Picard and Data. He got a lot better in DS9, mind. Anyway, I find myself giving a crap about CJ, Toby, Josh et al. And of course I love politics and watching people operate in that world and deal with the frustrations of believing one thing but knowing something else will work is pretty interesting.

I've been watching Batman Beyond. It came out when I was a senior in high school and at that time I never really gave much attention to animated shows because I'd be at school then work. I really dig this cartoon. Also, I'm really getting into these super old movies like Intolerance and Metropolis, haven't watched Intolerance completely yet (shit is like 4 1/2 hours) but Metropolis was fucking incredible for a movie that came out almost 100 years ago. Nash Diesel
October 6th, 2014, 5:11 PM
It wasn't like I watched it and went "Wow this is the exact same plotline, dialogue, etc. as Clockwork Orange" but more the visuals, the self-narration, I honestly couldn't tell you a detailed reason as to WHY. Maybe if I read some reviews that shared the same feelings about the movie I'd have a better grasp on the WHY aside from like I said, the way it looked and the way Bronson narrates the film like Alex did in Clockwork. It shares that grittiness. So maybe MikeHunt you were thinking I was trying to do a detailed comparison of the two in terms of plot, dialogue, but it wasn't that it was more the vibe of Clockwork. Kind of like I watch Django and can get that Pulp Fiction-Kill Bill-Tarantino vibe even though none of these movies really have much in common in terms of the plot.

Excited for this as well even though I've seen it twice.

I really liked both Hunger Games films. If you've seen a fair amount of the teen sci-fi dystopia stuff that's around now it likely won't come across as anything new but at the time I found the first a breath of fresh air, and was glad to see that young woman from Winter's Bone land such a good role. You can see how Lawrence became a star with this.

I'm currently trying to finish off the Shield. I'm about halfway through season 6. It and The Wire are my two favorite "cop shows" that people need to see. Very different shows but both just so so good. The Wire has more layers than an onion and The Shield is like having a panic attack for 45 minutes every single episode.

Recently on Netflix I have watched;

Starlet (http://movieblort.com/2015/08/06/netflix-pick-starlet-2012/), which was this dream film about a sexy blonde girl who befriends an older lady out of guilt.

Mardaani (http://movieblort.com/2015/06/22/netflix-pick-mardaani-2014/), basically an Indian version of 'Taken' with a woman as the lead.

Dealin' With Idiots (http://movieblort.com/2015/06/15/netflix-pick-dealin-with-idiots-2013/), a dry comedy about weird parents and their fascination with kids sports.

Miss Violence (http://movieblort.com/2015/06/12/netflix-pick-miss-violence-2010-review/), a tweaky Greek drama about a girl who commits suicide.

Hot Rod (http://movieblort.com/2015/06/08/hot-rod-2007-review/), a quality cult comedy starring Andy Samberg with many quotable lines.

The Manchurian Candidate, a remake of a 1960's classic starring Denzel Washington. Very weird, solid film.

And then a fuck load of Documentaries; full list here (http://movieblort.com/2015/04/13/movieblorts-top-documentaries-on-uk-netflix-part-1/) and here (http://movieblort.com/2015/07/03/movieblorts-top-documentaries-on-netflix-uk-part-2/)

Making of a Murderer, is a new 10 part documentary.I seriously don't want to spoil it for anyone so all I'll say is that it is in a similar vein as 'The Jinx' and 'The Staircase'.

I watched the first 4 episodes yesterday and I'm hooked. Each episode ends with a really great cliffhanger that makes you want to start the next one straight away. I'm purposefully not looking up the story online so I do not spoil the remainder of the episodes for myself.

Yeah Im onto episode five and its really good. I already knew the story though so it was a bit spoiled - think it was on something like FBI files before (unless a really similar case). Anyway its getting stick online for bending the truth for drama but I can let it slide as most documentaries do anyway.
