As if fucking Colin Murray has a say on what gets talked about.

Not specific incidents no but I'm sure the producer doesnt tell them exactly what words to say through a headset.

Does Andy/whoever else accept from the list compiled by Gary J that, while it is accurate that they get hit by horror tackles more than anyone else, they also give out more than any else and so it is hypocritical to complain about being targeted?

Serious answer - I think it's difficult. The list isn't exactly a scientific document. Obviously the phrase itself is ambiguous and also you have players on the list like RVP, and I'm not having a go, who are on it because of a supposed tackle that only one person saw. You also have the problem of tackles like the Carragher one which inexplicably aren't shown or discussed.

Just because Arsenal made bad tackles last season doesn't automatically negate the right to take umbrage with bad tackles against them. Same applies to everyone.

I may have been biased/naive in years gone by but I think mostly I'm fairly reasonable now. I'll call out a bad tackle whoever makes it.

Fuck me, a good few additions today, and I'm only three games into MOTD.

Ringo
August 20th, 2011, 6:16 PM
Only saw that Bardsley tackle from one angle but it looked brutal. Ugh.

Ringo
August 20th, 2011, 6:17 PM
oh there it is. nasty.

Simon
August 21st, 2011, 7:39 AM
Bardsley's was bad, Cattermole's was a cunt's move but it wasn't particularly dangerous. There was another one IIRC but I forget what it was now.

Does Frimpong's 'challenge' count? It didn't make much of a connection, and didn't seem overly malicious, but it was reckless, nowhere near the ball, and had it connected properly would have done some serious shin-damage...

Simon
August 21st, 2011, 9:08 AM
Shit yeah now I think about it, it was one of Frimpong's (the second one?), very high and dangerous.

Lagom
August 21st, 2011, 9:21 AM
Yeah, kicked out at Lucas (I think), why he went for it with his left foot and not his right, I do not know.

Andy
August 21st, 2011, 9:27 AM
He didn't kick out at him, he left his foot in there going for the block. It was a poor tackle.

Simon
August 21st, 2011, 11:33 AM
Lucas actually landed on his head, which the commentators ignored because of the red card.

Lagom
August 21st, 2011, 11:38 AM
Yeah, he literally turned him upside down, when if he'd have gone with his right foot, he probably would have nicked the ball. As someone else said though, most predictable red card ever (or for a long time, at least). I was watching it in the pub, and said to my dad as soon as he started mouthing off at Kelly/Henderson over a throw-in which obviously wasn't his, that he'd get sent off. This was barely 5 minutes in, and you could see him bubbling over.

Mik

Wenger should've had the good sense to take him off then.

Simon
August 21st, 2011, 11:44 AM
I only found out what happened after the game, came on here later in the afternoon and it was funny seeing everyone on here agreeing that he was gonna get sent off.

Simon
August 21st, 2011, 11:45 AM
I hope Frimpong becomes a big star, if only so that my boast about beating him on FIFA is very very slightly more impressive.

Lagom
August 21st, 2011, 11:45 AM
Mik, I don't know if you watched the game after yours had finished, but he was a train wreck, constant niggling, awkward on the ball, wouldn't keep his mouth shut, and his sending of could (probably should) have been a straight red. That said, did Wenger really have many more options?

Andy
August 21st, 2011, 12:48 PM
Wenger should've had the good sense to take him off then.

And bring on who?!

I actually felt really sorry for him. Wenger put it quite nicely saying that he was a victim on his own enthusiasm. He was fantastic - breaking up attacks, setting them up, shielding the defence, showed great strength, energy and desire too. He'll learn from it and I think he'll be a real fan favourite with performances like that.

So far this season then we have had Carragher , Frimpong and Bardsley i also saw a nasty challenge by Cabaye on MotD so am adding that. I noticed KMH mentions a nasty tackle from Kevin Davies in todays game so am adding that to the list as well.

Targeted Teams

Sunderland - 2
Liverpool - 1
Man City - 1
Newcastle -1

Guilty Teams

Arsenal - 1 (Frimpong)
Bolton - 1 (K.Davies)
Liverpool - 1 (Carragher)
Newcastle - 1 (Cabaye)
Sunderland - 1 (Bardsley)

Andy
August 21st, 2011, 3:26 PM
Are we just doing "challenges worthy of a red card" then?

Gary J
August 21st, 2011, 3:32 PM
I guess you are talking about the inclusion of Frimpong i thought it was dangerous as did Simon and i'm assuming it was one of the three The Rosk thought was an addition. Like last season if the majority of posters don't think a tackle should be on the list i'll take it off but at the moment thats not the case.

Andy
August 21st, 2011, 3:40 PM
Not Frimpong in particular really. I just think if we're going to try and make this remotely scientific we need to sort out the term. It would be easier to just list bad tackles worthy of a red card.

Frimpong's was a bad tackle. Not sure that it was a horror tackle. Same with the Cabaye one if I'm thinking of the right one.

Gary J
August 21st, 2011, 3:45 PM
Well i only named the thread horror tackles as a little joke towards you as i think you started the phrase Horror tackle.

Andy
August 21st, 2011, 3:50 PM
Wasn't there a thread in the asylum about horror tackle or horrific lunges or whatever?

I dunno, keep it as it is, it just makes it very hard to compare.

Simon
August 21st, 2011, 3:52 PM
Frimpong's one could have caused serious injury. Cattermole's was a 'bad tackle but not a horror tackle' if you're looking for something to put into that category - a really bad tackle but not particularly dangerous.

RFF Champ
August 21st, 2011, 3:55 PM
I don't think Cattermole's should count here.

Andy
August 21st, 2011, 3:56 PM
Cattermole's hasn't gone into the list anyway has it? I feel the same about the Cabaye one if I'm thinking about the right one.

Simon
August 21st, 2011, 4:00 PM
I was just using it as one to compare. I mean obviously horror tackle is a subjective term but I thought the assumed meaning was "liable to cause injury" in which case Frimpong's one probably does fall under that category. Enjoyed him coming out slating Piers Morgan on Twitter today and thanking Jack Wilshere for his supportive tweets by saying "thanks Jack I love you xxx".

Andy
August 21st, 2011, 4:08 PM
Haha yeah he's a good laugh when he's not chatting random shit that I literally have no clue about. Love his Twitter blurb too: "I love Arsenal more than the person that founded it".

Liable to cause injury is probably a fair enough definition and Frimpong's would fall under that category.

Gary J
August 21st, 2011, 4:18 PM
Should i take the Cabaye one off the list then i've put it on because i thought it was nasty and Andy does think it belongs and like i said before if the majority think it doesn't belong then it comes off the list.

Andy Wilkinson's scissor kick on Nathan Dyer yesterday. Horrible challenge.

I assume Rodwell's challenge is going straight on the list...

Gary J

I'll bring this back this season as due to Hull being in the prem i'll actually care about the premiership.

Simon
August 15th, 2013, 7:12 AM
This thread was great. Created to test Andy's hypothesis that Arsenal were singled out for rough treatment, but ended up showing that Arsenal are the worst of the lot.

El Capitano Gatisto
August 15th, 2013, 7:14 AM
I don't think it really did that at all.

Simon
August 15th, 2013, 8:38 AM
It bloody did. Arsenal are scum.

Andy
August 15th, 2013, 8:50 AM
Ah yes, I believe Opta use this thread. Flawless research and statistics.

Gary J
August 19th, 2013, 5:16 PM
Well I don't know about Opta but I did some research today looking on the prem clubs forums to see if they were moaning about any tackles. The only one that seemed to cause a bit of fuss was Michu on Rooney but I don't think it deserved to put onto the list.

Don't know if anyone else saw any over the weekend.

Simon

Kyle Walker just put in an absolute hog of a tackle on Stephen Quinn. Should have been red, ref didn't even give a yellow. Quinn made nothing of it which probably spared him...crazy refereeing though, as clear cut a red as you will see.

Yep that tackle on Suarez today.

Peter Griffin
November 23rd, 2013, 5:38 PM
I didnt see you posting about Suarez's tackles on various players over the last 2 years ;)

Simon
November 23rd, 2013, 5:42 PM
It wasn't that bad...if anything the fact that it was deliberate inadvertently made it less dangerous - he went to hurt him, but it was controlled to stud him where he did, there wasn't really any chance of it being a leg breaker.

Yep that tackle on Suarez today.

Should have tackled his face.

Considering how many refereeing decisions have gone against Everton in recent years against Liverpool I'm glad Mirallas escaped a red card.

Did think it was a shocker though.

That tackle on Nasri was fucking ludicrous yesterday

Simon
January 13th, 2014, 5:25 AM
It was ugly and malicious but I'm surprised it's seemingly done so much damage. I think the injury is slightly unlucky, in that he's only meant to have a swipe at him but it looks like his trailing leg has trapped Nasri's leg which I guess is where the muscle damage has come from on impact (amateur input).

I don't think the tackle was as bad as people are making it out, it wasn't great but as Simon said most of the damage was from bad luck rather than impact of driving boot to leg.

Mind, as soon as the ref disallowed the Tiote goal he lost the game from that moment on you could see something coming, both sides (mainly Newcastle) were out of control, the most surprising thing was that Tiote was trying to be the voice of reason.

I had ligament damage purely from impact before. If you get hit hard enough and that was fucking hard you can be bucked

Coquelin.

Andy
January 4th, 2015, 4:39 PM
Such a silly one too. I'll never understand why players still jump in like that.

That Blyth captain with a horrible one on Zigic yesterday too.

I was very surprised he didn't get sent off, but not a horror tackle surely?

Studs up, downward thrust onto his knee. That's a potential career ender.

Which one are you on about turdy?

Andy
January 4th, 2015, 7:37 PM
Are you on about the one near the end? I didn't think he even made contact but thought he was going to get sent off anyway. Either didn't see it properly or am forgetting the one you're talking about.
