I read earlier that Zarate was linked with Liverpool, so that seems most likely. We've been linked with him in the past though. Would this be evidence that Liverpool are already faltering on Carroll? I've heard/read three or four things in the media since I've been back dismissing him as a £35m flop, he hasn't been that bad has he? Hardly set the world alight but he's done exactly what you'd expect him to do ie. unsettle defenders, win everything in the area and provide a static pivot for the likes of Downing, Kuyt and Suarez to play off.

He had a lot of critics over his lifestyle at Newcastle but his application on the pitch could never be faulted.

We're making late attempts to sign Renato Augusto and Mikel Arteta according to the Telegraph and Mirror.

from wiki

Mikel Arteta Amatriain (born 26 March 1982 in San Sebastián, Gipuzkoa, Basque Country) is a Spanish footballer who plays as a midfielder for English club Arsenal. The move to Arsenal has not yet been finalised due to Arteta being unhappy at the breed of cats in and around the London area. He bases his hairstyles on different types of cats and is yet to find one that will match his fluffy needs.

Apparently Per Mertesacker has rejected a move to Arsenal. If true, it's quite pleasing. Partly because he's always looked like a bombscare whenever I've seen him but also because it at least we're looking into getting another established defender.

He aint been the same since his injury. I would be happy with 10M if we can do something with it. The 4M saved in wages per year would be a bonus too.

He used to be excellent, now hes just a neat and tidy player. Maybe a change of scene will do him good though.

Big enough to win headers, but likes to play with his feet. Its less about what he personally can do and more about how his presence might change the dynamic of our team and allow Gyan and Sess to play that is important for me.

If he fucks off after a decent season, then fair enough.

I'd have bought Crouch. He's shown he has the ability to score goals regularly despite going off the boil a bit in the last few years. He'd change the dynamic in the same way as Bendtner would. He could become a bit of a hero, and you could actually see him staying up there for a while.

Of course, you might not have had the option to buy Crouch.

Yeah, I don't think Mik'd complain if he came in and did a decent job, only then to fuck off, that's what loans are all about. He's got decent attributes, but he needs to learn to concentrate.

Bendtner's ability in his head: 20
Bendtner's ability to translate that ability to his feet quickly enough: 4

Forcing Hughton out is the worst thing he's done, for sure. Allegedly Carroll didn't want to go but I can understand why he took that offer

We have spent very little but we've spent very wisely, I think. Yohann Cabaye!

This is scientifically true isn't it? They do psycho-analytical tests at Arsenal and he scored higher on perceived ability than anyone the tester had ever seen. If he makes a mistake he genuinely doesn't believe it's his fault.

I hate loans like that though. Like our Walker loan. Good for half a season, but in terms of actually building something at the club, absolutely pointless.

I suppose everything is pretty short term now, nature of the game etc. Just ask Wenger.

Carroll not wanting to go is crap mate, he wanted out but didn't want a backlash.

Cabaye is going to be one of the buys of the season, Tiote and Cabaye are going to be a nightmare to play against for other teams when they get up to speed.
