Ok the Psych boys are hosting RAW this week (and the show returns on the 27th) and it seems there's no Psych thread and there's a fair few fans of the show up there so I figured I'd make a thread.
Personally I adore Psych, it's a wonderful show. It's up there with Burn Notice & Chuck in great easy to watch comedy drama's which is pure fun.

The only thing that gets under my skin is how Shawn treats Gus.
Sometimes he's such an asshole to him.

I enjoy the show but I don't always watch it. One of these days I will play catch up and watch a lot of what I have missed.

Exact same thing for me. Enjoy it very much when I catch it, but haven't yet formed the habit of watching it.

Wonderful episode, you can tell it's basically made for the wrestling fans. There's about 6 wrestling references in it.
Seriously if you've never checked it out before, this episode works as a wonderful drop-in point.

Yeah I just watched it and caught a few of them. The Kamala one was my favorite.
Also, I thought it was intriguing that Cena's character was more integral to the overall Psych universe as Juliet's sister as opposed to some random guest star. Perhaps more guest spots for him?

I enjoy Psych. I thought the pairing of it with Monk was great, and it's good that it's got it's own night. I've been a fan of Dule Hill since his days on West Wing, and when I first heard he was going to do this type of show, I was like...what? But he does a great job, as Gus is my favorite character on the show.
I'm not a huge fan of Cena, but he did a good job in this role, and I could definitely see him show back up, especially seeing as how it seems like there maybe an overall arching storyline with his mysterious backer on the show.

Season finale tonight.
What did you guys think? I wonder who Mr. Yin is.
Once again... loved tonight's finale.
Can't wait for next year to start!

I have a feeling Psych probably doesn't know.
Hopefully now we can finally get Juliet & Shawn together.

good season finale. apparently it has to do something with Shawn's past, because of the picture. The writers said on Twitter it will be resolved BEFORE next season's finale.

Hopefully now we can finally get Juliet & Shawn together.
That's clearly the direction! They've done it pretty well without just dumping Abigail to the side and it stalled to allow them to postpone Shawn/Jules a little bit longer.

Honestly, I thought it turned into one of the best episodes I've seen of Psych. I thought the beginning with all the Alfred Hitchcock throwbacks was cool, but a little cheesy, especially with Mary's murder, but after Juliet's kidnapping, the pace of the show really picked up and it's always interesting to see usually a pure comedy show switch gears into drama and suspense...and do a good job of it. It really turned into a great ending, and it really makes me not be able to wait for next season.

Is it just me or has James Roday stacked on a fair bit of weight?
VanillaJello
July 16th, 2010, 10:29 AM
Totally.
I watched the season premiere last night and the first thing I thought was, "damn, Shawn's put on a ton of weight."
I noticed it less and less as the episode went on... but it was quite jarring at first.

It actually threw me off a bit for the entire episode. There was a fair bit of running/fighting in the episode and for a lot of it Shawn is puffing (acting), though it caused me to continually think: "lose some weight and you wouldn't be out of breath", though I also know he'd be puffing last Season in the same situation.

Yeah, I noticed the weight thing, too, especially at the end of the season premiere when he was fighting while lying on the ground.

I just started getting into this show because it's on Netflix instant, and I love it.
Dule Hill makes the show, for me. Gus is awesome.

The first two seasons are fantastic. Beware of season 3 and onwards, though. Wildly hit or miss.

Oh, I disagree big time. I feel seasons 3 and 4 are the best ones. In the first season, it seemed like they weren't quite sure what the dynamic between Shawn and Gus should be.
By the second season, it felt like they got that figured with the right balance of serious and silly, especially where Gus is concerned. Seasons 3 and 4 definitely feel like the most well balanced in terms of the goofiness, 80's jokes/references, and crime solving. The fifth season was fairly hit or miss, for me, with more hits than misses.
The sixth season, however, really wasn't that great. They're relying far too much on 80's has been guest stars/in jokes. I really don't have high hopes for the upcoming season, which kills me to say because this was probably my favorite show a few years ago.
The only aspect of the show that has never worn thin for me is Lassiter. That guy is fucking awesome and the Lassiter focused episodes are the best ones, at this point.

Just started season 3, but thus far my favorite episode is Lights, Camera... Homicidio. Funny stuff when Henry Spencer started giving Shawn crap about how his character was treating the female on the soap opera.
The USA Network has the episode on youtube.

Just made it through season 4. It was very hit and miss. The hits were quality, and some really let Burton Gusterson shine. There were quite a few episodes that were sped through though. The finale, however, was one of the strongest episodes yet. Somehow the ending to the episode was very satisfying. I'm on track to be up to date for the start of the season. I just hope I haven't burned myself out on the show along the way.

So I'm pretty much caught up to this point. I really liked season 5. There were some solid episodes in there, and Lassie was able to shine through alot of episodes. Season 6 was a mixed bag for me. The little jokes here and there helped break up the shows I wasn't too big on. The finale of season 6 was a big one though. As soon as I saw Henry Spencer on the beach, I knew what was going down. It was still a very powerful moment. Now I'm stoked for a season 7 that is just a couple few days away.

Nice season opener. Good continuation of the story, although it got a bit up its own ass in the middle. Nice references(short circuit one in particular). Poor cranberry.

You think that's permanent? I thought that was meant to show the state of mind he was in, everything being slow motion because of lack of sleep and wanting to catch the guy. :dunno:

I love this show. Love it. That said, this season has dragged forever. Everyone has new projects going and it's hurt the show. Last episode had maybe half the cast.

The last episode was good though. Fucking strange, too. Plus it had Bruce Campbell.
I think these latest episodes from after the midseason break are some of the best ones they've done in a while.
That said, I'm glad they're ending it. It's definitely time.

I too am happy Psych is coming to an end. The last two seasons really lack in comparison to the early years. Writers seem a little lazy in the clues Shawn picks up. He went from the show origins noticing small but significant details to basing his "psychic" vibes off much more obvious stuff. With that said in a weird way I'm sad there will be no more Psych. When I had a bad week, I could count on Psych to cheer me up with their goofiness. I guess you could say I find the upcoming season finale bitter-sweet.

Did anyone else catch last night's finale?
I thought it was really well done. I liked that they went out of their way to, for the most part, make it feel like just another episode. I loved the cameos. The video good byes Shawn made were touching, especially the one to Lassie.
Also, the Monk reference was great.

I watched it. I liked it. The zombie episode is actually the last one they shot so I think that helped it feel like just another episode.
