I know we already have the £10 to £1000 challenge thread but how about we start a new thread, where we all share our tips for accumulators, first scorers, scores, ect. We could all help each other out! with our diverse rang of football knowledge amongst us.

So lets start with tips for this weeks midweek games...

Man Utd to beat Fulham is a dead cert I think,

Also West Brom to beat Coventry at home,

I think Burnley to beat Leicester at home and Southampton to beat Sheffield Wednesday at home is also on the cards.

Away win for Arsenal at Newcastle, I feel is risky but I reckon Arsenal will put it off

so thats a five fold accumulator....

£5 on that returns £56,

£10 on that returns £112,

So what are your tips for this weeks midweek games? I find it impossible to predict a game like Milan v Celtic for example, I look forward to seeing your opinions!

It's a free £25 bet I had, it expires on Saturday and there was nothing else that took my fancy. It's a bit of a shit free bet, to be honest, as you can only use it on one selection and it has to be evens or greater.

OUT RECENT FORM? LOL

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

Jay
January 2nd, 2008, 7:33 PM
Have a look at out recent form. It was a really good result today, but most of that good form took place at home. Your other away win was due to an own goal right at the end, with the keeper punching it into his own net. The fact that you're away from home is what's putting me off... It's worth sticking in an accumulator, but it's not one of those sure fire bets where you stick a load on, I don't think.

You drew with Berwick at home last month, too.

:\

How come you're on such a roll now, then? New players?

Friday
January 2nd, 2008, 7:35 PM
The manager seems to have stumbled upon a winning formula. For example, playing a left winger on the left wing rather than in the centre of midfield.

I have no idea how we didn't beat Berwick at home. They were very lucky to get a draw.

The team's just clicked. We've absolutely dicked the opposition in the last month.

It's also worth noting the team we beat 4-0 had the best home record in the league.

Jay
January 2nd, 2008, 7:45 PM
Cheers for the heads up, anyway. I'll have a bit of a think about it. Having looked a little closer, it does look a rather good prospect, especially at evens, but I'm a little bit skeptical because I know results like Berwick beating leaders Raith at home can pop up. I know you can get funny results anywhere in football, but you rarely ever get bottom beating top. I've been let down by Scottish lower league teams a couple of times this season - East Fife being one of them the other week.

Melv
January 2nd, 2008, 7:47 PM
Also look at it this way: Brechin beat Ayr 5-1 the other day, who beat Berwick 4-0 today.

Berwick are by far the worst team in the league.

Valenciennes are ridiculously good at home, but they're quite shocking on their travels. There are a number of other teams like this in Ligue 1 such as Auxerre, St Etienne, Nice, Caen, etc.

I came across this last month when Valenciennes were playing Auxerre. Because they both had very similar records (great at home, terrible away), they were separated by only a point or two in the league table, which meant the odds for the home team (Valenciennes) were quite big at even money. The odds for the home team are usually evens or thereabouts when the team they're hosting are close in the table.

I know even money isn't fantastically great odds, but considering Valenciennes were unbeaten at home, winning seven of nine, conceding only three - and they were playing Auxerre, who had lost six of their nine away games, scoring three and conceding and whopping fifteen, the odds were great. I whacked quite a large amount on them and they won 3-0 - easy money.

Back then, I had a look at their fixtures and noticed they were playing St Etienne this weekend. It's practically the same story as it was with Auxerre. St Etienne have lost seven of their ten away games, winning only one of them and have conceded eighteen goals. Valenciennes home record is played nine, won seven, drew two, lost none, scored eighteen and conceded three.

Have a look at the table on BBC's website and see for yourself. The bookies are taking a massive, massive risk with this one, I think. I thought they might have learned their lesson after the Auxerre game, but obviously not.

turdpower
January 10th, 2008, 6:33 PM
I don't think the bookies are taking a massive risk. It's hardly going to get the average fan betting is it?

Jay
January 10th, 2008, 6:39 PM
Perhaps not your average fan, but you get a lot of people betting on European games - bookies like William Hill, Ladbrokes, etc. even have European coupons in their bookmakers.

I think they're taking a massive risk because all the bookies have to do is take a quick glance at the table to see where the form lies. I can't see why or how they can offer such big odds, unless they simply don't look at the home/away aspects of the table, but rather their positions in the league.

If I had a bookies, they'd be well odds on - something like 1/3.

I know Milan's away form is much, much better than their home form, but they're still absolutely shite - no where near the kind of team they used to be.

Catania, however, have seemingly got a cracking home record. They've only conceded five goals in nine league games, and even the likes of Juventus needed a ninetieth minute penalty to nick a point at the weekend against them...

I know it's easy with hindsight, though...

1_Pablo_Angel
January 16th, 2008, 6:39 PM
It wasn't a great bet. I'd looked at Milan a few days ago so I knew their away record was good and I thought they'd kick on after that 5 - 2 mauling of Empoli. Must admit all the Pato love suckered me in a bit too.

It was about as sensible a bet as PSG Valenciennes. Just the way it goes really...

Gone for a few strange bets this week.

First off, a 7-team accumulator for a quid:
Metz vs MONACO - 11/10
MAN CITY vs West Ham - 5/6
DUNDEE UTD vs Aberdeem - 6/5
Partick vs HAMILTON - Evens
BRECHIN vs Cowdenbeath - 5/6
Queens Park vs RAITH - 10/11
EAST FIFE vs Forfar - 1/6
NEWCASTLE vs Bolton - 8/11

Then I've gone for 4 strikers to score first in their games - 50p on each, and 6 doubles at 50p each:
Torres vs Villa
Ronaldo vs Reading
Santa Cruz vs Boro
Benjani vs Derby

Then purely as an experiment, 50p on each scoreline in the EPL - I've foolishly gone with Lawrenson's predictions:
Birmingham 0-2 Chelsea
Blackburn 2-0 Boro
Fulham 0-3 Arsenal
Portsmouth 2-0 Derby
Reading 0-2 Man Utd
Spurs 1-0 Sunderland
Newcastle 3-1 Bolton
Wigan 1-1 Everton
Man City 2-1 West Ham
Liverpool 2-0 Aston Villa

£10 overall at stake. I don't expect anything to come off. :D

Aye, that's what I do most of the time now. The only reason I didn't this weekend is because I don't fully trust the FA Cup. Sods law that I bloody won, but I'm not complaining.

Why Santander?

Jay
January 27th, 2008, 9:11 AM
They're at home to Real Zaragoza, and while they're quite a good team at their own ground, they're shocking on their travels. Zaragoza's away record reads won one, drew two, lost six, scored seven and conceded eighteen.

Santander, on the other hand, have a really good home record. Won six, drew two, lost one, scored eleven and conceded only four.

It's practically the same thing as when I tipped Valenciennes the other week - a team with good home form and bad away form meets a team with good home form and bad away form. You're obviously going to go with the home team in that situation. And because both teams have such similar records, you're going to get a good price for the home team.

The Rosk

Anyway, I was right in the end. Even if it did take a 90th minute winner.

I was one goal away from winning yet again. I'm ok with that. Perhaps I'm also heading very near to drunken insanity, but whatever. Still nearly £100 up over the last 2 weeks. BOOYA

The joke's on you, Deon Burton is just a substitute now. Francis Jeffers is an integral member of our squad instead.

And yes, I could see that goal coming a mile off :(

You're one club I'd like to see return to the big time. Been up Sheff a couple of times to see my best mate who lives up there (Southampton fan), even got one of those trams down to Hillsborough Park to check it out. Never seen Pompey there, but I'm sure I will eventually.

Brian Laws is a good manager. He'll sort you out. At least you beat Utd the other week.

Arsenal, Wolves and Rochdale won me £46 last night. Betting on three teams with a decent amount of cash = the way forward.

May go with a cheeky Derby home win/Everton Spurs draw for a fiver from my winnings. Could bring in £80 I reckon.

I've got a tip for you lot, although it's not football, it's horse racing.

16:10 at Newcastle: Mighty Magnus

I got 11/2 for it early this morning, but it's now down to 4/1 in most places. You can still get 9/2 at BetFred and Blue Square, though.

It's my Uncle's horse, that's why I've heard it's got a really good chance. He was on the phone to my Dad last night and the trainer has said if it doesn't win, he'll walk around Carlisle town center with his arse out, so he's obviously very confident. That doesn't mean you weigh in and stick £100 on it (1PA, I'm looking at you :squint::D), but it's definitely worth a fiver or a tenner, I think. I've stuck twenty on it, which was probably a tenner too much, in hindsight.

I actually watched it run at Haydock a couple of months ago when it finished third, and the only reason it didn't win is because the trip was a little too long for him. He's got a much better chance over this course and distance.

The Sun's Templegate has gone for it too, so it's in with a shout.

Don't go and shoot me, the messenger, if it doesn't win, because all I'm doing is being nice and passing on potentially valuable information - it's up to you lot what you do with it. I actually wasn't going to pass it on, because I'd feel bad if it lost - like I felt bad the other night when I talked about Racing Santander and 1PA lost money on them. But I think it's worth the risk.

Mate that's what this thread is for. I took Rochdale last night and it beefed up the pot. Bit pointless betting on tonight's games, Saturday's look appealing.

Well, there's twenty quid I'll never see again...

What a load of bollocks. Just wait until he phones up here later :grumpy:

To be fair though, he does look to be a very good horse. It had all the support from the tipsters in the newspapers this morning. It led all the way for about two mile until it got to two furlongs out, then it started treading water and finished sixth. The distance is still too much for him, I think.

When that trainer is showing his arse around Carlisle, I hope some sausage jockey drags him into some bushes and rapes the shit out of him.

Would anyone else be up for keeping a record of wins/losses to have a little 'competition' between one another? We could start a clean slate every month and keep totals for that month, then an overall table.

Turdpower ran a game along those lines a while back. Yourself and Jay were involved I think?

And I won it

I put a tenner on that horse Jay. Thought it was going to win too, just ran out of steam in the final two.

I put a tenner on that horse Jay. Thought it was going to win too, just ran out of steam in the final two.Sorry, mate.

Frustratingly, it did the exact same thing at Haydock - took the lead, held it all the way round, looked like it was going to hold on and then drifted two out.

If they put it in a shorter race, which they should do, unless they're idiots, I'll give you all a shout as soon as I know so you can get a good, early price on it. If they can get it into a similar field but at a shorter distance, it should win, as it's looked a good horse the two times I've seen it.

Another good tactic would be to hold it back a little bit more in the early stages. The horse seems a bit mad. In the race today, it was wanting to pull away and the jockey had to keep on holding it back.
