Results for Brackets A and B, night one!

1) Shelton Benjamin and Sniper d. Bastion Booger and Masato Tanaka at 4:52 after Benjamin pinned Booger. Booger didn't come to the ring immediately, as he was backstage eating. Tanaka took on both men himself, and had a great exchange with Benjamin, even hitting a diamond dust for a 2 count. Bastion came to the ring and got a hot tag, but it wasn't long before Shelton pinned him with a sunset flip as the fat man just fell over. *1/4

2) Evan Karagias and Super Crazy (Tres Count) d. Teddy Hart and Eugene at 7:50 when Crazy pinned Eugene. Tres Count danced before the match. Teddy Hart busted out all sorts of high flying moves in the match, such as a shooting star press to the floor on Evan, a crazy double DDT on both opponents, and a Hart Attack on Crazy. Eugene channeled Rock and Austin like usual, but Crazy was able to block a stunner and get a victory roll for the pin. After the match, Teddy attacked Eugene and gave him a series of moonsaults. **1/4

3) Shark Boy and Rock d. Pocket Rocket and Prince Iaukea at 0:45 after a series of trademark moves from Shark/Rock, finished by a People's Elbow to Prince for the pinfall as Shark bit Rocket's ass. DUD

4) Rick Rude and Abyss d. Shane Douglas and Kamala at 15:49 in a hard fought match. Douglas pulled out all the usual heel spots in this one, including abdominal stretch on Rude using the ropes for leverage, using a chain to hit Abyss and get a two count, pulling Abyss' mask around so he can't see, low blows, and more. But Rude did much of the same right back at the Ugandan Franchise team. Kamala had Rude pinned after hitting a second rope splash, but rolled Rude onto his belly for some reason. An angry Franchise ended up shoving Kamala into a Black Hole Slam from Abyss, and Rude crawled on top for the pinfall. **1/2

5) Bam Bam Bigelow and JBL (Money Inc. V.2) d. Austin Aries and Dino Bravo (Personal Jesuses) at 10:50. JBL introduced the brand new Bam Bam Bigelow before the match, and Bigelow came out dressed in a suit and tie. Bam Bam talked about how he became rich after reading JBL's book. Aries and Bravo put up a decent fight, and Aries even hit a 450 on JBL and had him pinned, but Bigelow was outside the ring and snuck JBL's foot on the bottom rope. The match ended after JBL hit the Clothesline From Hell on Bravo as he tried to side suplex Bammer. Bam Bam gets the pin and the win for his team. **

6) Bret Hart and Tommy Dreamer (The Cal-Yonk Connection) d. New Jack and Colt Cabana (Ebony and Ivory) and 7:54. New Jack and Dreamer brawled most of the match as Hart and Cabana put on a European style mat wrestling clinic. New Jack set up Dreamer for his stage dive, but Dreamer rolled out of the way and New Jack crashed through a table. Dreamer returned to the ring and hit a Spicolli Driver on Cabana, leading to a Sharpshooter and the finish. **1/2. After the match, New Jack stabbed Cabana repeatedly with a fork out of frustration.

7) Mr. Perfect and American Dragon (SmarkGasm) d. JYD and Alex Wright (Whips and Chains) at 3:40 after completely destroying both opponents and Dragon hooking the Cattle Mutilation submission on Wright for the finish. *1/4

8) Brooklyn Brawler and HHH d. Repo Man and Sting at 12:43 in the main event of the evening. Repo Man came out with HHH's ring gear on, saying he Repo-ed it from the locker room. HHH came out and wrestled in a suit and tie. HHH and Sting had the eventual face off and staredown, and each hit his finisher on the other, with the respective teammate breaking up the pin. The finish finally came when Repo Man hooked Brawler in a sleeper hold and HHH was able to club Repo Man from the apron with a shot to the back of the head, and Brawler quickly cradled Repo for the finish. **1/4

9) The Proph-HUSS-cy (Daniels/Berzerker) d. Ramen (Raven/Men's Teioh) at 21:42. The two teams went to a 20:00 draw, but it was ruled that they would get a 10:00 overtime period to get a winner, to try and avoid draws like last tournament. Berzerker chased Raven around ringside with his sword, an Daniels hit the Last Rites on Teioh as he was distracted to pick up the win. Slow match, though. *3/4

10) Truth Test (Killings/Test) d. The World's Greatest Tag Team V.2 (Hardy/Haas) at 10:41 in a competitive match. Back and forth action, featuring Hardy hitting a twist of fate on Killings off the apron and to the floor, Test hitting a pumphandle slam on the floor on Hardy, Haas busting out numerous innovative submission holds, and Killings getting out of a TOF and getting a rolling cradle for the pinfall. ***

11) They're Grrrrreat! (Whipwreck/Ali Singh) d. Team Ass Punch (Wellington/Ebessan) at 7:45 in a funny match. The crowd didn't know Wellington and Ebessan, as they got a tepid reaction coming to the ring. But they won the crowd over, with Ebessan doing his trademark impersonations (of guys like HHH, Hogan, Savage, Foley, etc) and Wellington hitting his ass punch and being accompanied to the ring by a guy in a bear costume. The end comes when the bear gets powder accidentally thrown in his eyes, and he mauls Beef mistakenly as Mikey hits a Whippersnapper on Ebessan for the pin. **1/4

12) Fat Liars (Vader/Eddie) d. Sabin/Jeff Hardy at 1:04 in a squash. Vader ran over both small opponents and Eddie frog splashed them both at once for the double pinfall. DUD

13) Jericho/Benoit d. Diesel/Jimmy Jacobs at 4:56 in a short match. Jericho and Benoit were just too good of a team, though the big man/little man offense of Nash and Jacobs was fun to watch for a bit, with Jacobs hitting a huge senton bomb off of Diesel's shoulders onto Jericho, as well as taking a powerbomb onto Benoit. The end came when Jacobs was trapped in a Liontamer/Crossface double submisison and Nash walked out on his partner for the second straight tournament, just shaking his head. Good while it lasted. **1/2

14) Kurt Angle and Necro Butcher d. Chris Candido and Petey Williams at 18:52 in an odd match. Candido did his strut down the ring apron before the match. Angle quickly hit a sunset flip in the match and pulled down Candido's shorts, leading to Candido wrestling bare-assed for over a minute. Angle wrestled most of the match for his team, but after taking out Petey with an Angle Slam, Necro called for the tag. Necro beat the hell out Petey with stiff punches, forearms, elbows, and other ugly offense. He took Petey outside and slammed him onto chairs and tossed him into the ring post. He then scaled up top and hit a CRAZY OUT OF CONTROL FOR AN OUT OF SHAPE HARDCORE GUY senton to the floor! Back inside, Petey rallied with the Canadian Destroyer out of nowhere on Butcher, for the UGLIEST Destroyer ever! Angle broke up the pin. Butcher was down a bit, but somehow recovered enough to take Angle, who cleaned house and got Petey to tap to the ankle lock as Necro headbutted Candido off the apron. **3/4 After the match, Necro continued to hit opponents with chairs until Angle convinced him to stop.

15) Steve Austin/Samoa Joe d. Power and Ass (Warlord/Gunn) at 4:24. Total squash for Austin and Joe, who showcased all their trademark moves. Stunner on Warlord, Muscle Buster on Gunn, game over. *1/4

16) Pepsi Inc. (Punk/Dibiase) d. Dude/Warrior at 10:00 in the main event. Punk/Dibiase worked as the heels, slowly wearing down their opponents. Dude hot tagged Warrior after hitting a double arm DDT on Punk. Warrior cleaned house with the usual. He went for a gorilla press slam on Punk as Dude went to clear Dibiase from the ring. Dibiase countered the Love Handle into the Million Dollar Dream, however, and both men fell to the floor. Warrior hit one Gorilla Press slam on Punk, but the crowd wanted another. He went for it, but Dibiase got back in the ring and clipped Warrior's knee, allowing Punk to fall on him right into hooking the Anaconda Vice! Dude is kept at bay and Dibiase adds in a knee bar submission! WARRIOR TAPS! IT'S OVER! **1/2

1) Tres Count d. Shelton Benjamin and Sniper at 2:42 in a surprising squash after Benjamin was dumped to the outside and Crazy hit a running powerbomb, followed by a Karagias corkscrew splash for the quick pin. 3/4*

2) The People's Shark (Shark Boy/Rock) d. Rude Awakening (Rude/Abyss) at 7:52. Rude had a picture of "Shark Boy's wife" on his tights, which of course was a woman in a shark mask. Sharky bit Rude in the ass to start things off. Abyss came in and worked over Sharky with his power stuff, but Rock finally got the hot tag in, cleaned house, and hit a Rock Bottom on Rude as Shark hit the Dead Sea Drop on Abyss. People's Elbow on Rude ends it. **1/2

3) Cal-Yonk Connection (Hart/Dreamer) d. Money Inc. V.2 (JBL/Bam Bam) at 8:50. JBL brought out New Jack and Colt Cabana before the match to play the role of Virgil/OJ for them, and had them polish his shoes. The match was standard back and forth action, with JBL missing a Clothesline from Hell and then taking a Spicolli Driver from Dreamer...for 2 as Bam Bam broke it up. The finish came as JBL ran into Cabana on the apron as he tried to interfere, and Hart cradled JBL for the pin. **1/4. After the match JBL slapped Cabana, so he and New Jack cleaned house, busted Bam Bam and JBL open, and New Jack hit a double stage dive.

4) SmarkGasm (Dragon/Perfect) d. HHH/Brawler at 3:33 when HHH was dumped to the floor when trying a pedigree on Perfect, and Dragon used the airplane spine on Brawler. After spinning him 50 times both men collapsed, and Perfect was able to hit the Perfect Plex for the pin. * (But smarks will say it was ***1/2)

5) Truth Test (Killings/Test) d. Proph-HUSS-cy (Daniels/Berzerker) at 3:40 after Berzerker accidentally hit Daniels with his sword (using the non-sharp part of the blade, thankfully!), allowing Test to hit a big boot for the pin. *

6) The Fat Liars (Eddie/Vader) d. They're Grrrrrrreat (Mikey/Tiger) at 1:05 in another utter squash. Vader runs over both opponents, powerbombs them both, and Eddie hits a double frog splash for the pin. Can anyone stop these two? DUD

7) Canadian Chrises (Benoit/Jericho) d. Angle/Necro (Team Really Long Name That Was Dumb) at 18:04 in a great match. Hard, HARD hitting match. Angle and Benoit/Jericho start off with great technical wrestling, but the wild card in the match is Necro, who just UNLOADS stiff forearms and punches and headbutts on Benoit and Jericho. Benoit and Necro unleash maybe the stiffest chops seen in wrestling in years in an exchange that brings the crowd to its feet. Benoit ducks a shot and German suplexes Necro for a 2 count. They fight to the apron, and Benoit German suplexes Necro off the apron and to the floor, and he lands with a sickening thud! With Necro out, Angle picks up the slack for his team. He works over Jericho's ankle (whaaaat?), trying to set up the ankle lock. He gets it, but Jericho gets the ropes. More trademark spots ensue, like Angle's run up the ropes superplex for a two count. Eventually Angle gets his knees up on the Lionsault attempt and then hooks the ankle lock, but Benoit comes in from behind and takes him into the crossface! Jericho adds the Liontamer and that's one sick submission...so Necro comes back in to finally break it up before Angle can tap! We get a pier six brawl, and Jericho and Angle go to the floor. They tease putting their finishing submission on each other on the floor. Necro and Benoit go at it again and Necro headbutts Benoit until each man's face is bloody. He tries to hook a sleeper, but Benoit suplexes out of it. He then hits a three rolling Germans, then a Tiger suplex, then a DRAGON suplex! TWO COUNT! Back up...crossface! Necro goes for the ropes, but Jericho has Angle in the ankle lock outside...and Necro has to tap! Great, great match. ****1/2

8) Samoan Stunners (Joe/Austin) d. Pepsi Inc. (Punk/Dibiase) at 14:05 in another great match. Joe and Austin just dominate early on, just kicking and punching the hell out of their opponents. Dibiase and Punk go to old school heel tactics to come back, and use all the old tricks in the book...abdominal stretch using the ropes for leverage, figure four holding partner's hands for leverage...fake tags...chokes behind the ref's back...brass knux...but nothing works. Austin goes for a superplex on Punk...countered into the PEPSI PLUNGE! Austin is down and out, but Punk grabs some Pepsi and mocks Austin, chugging Pepsi over him...and Austin sits up! Low blow! Clothesline! Thesz Press! Stunner! Tag to Joe! Bootscrapes! Running knee! Stunner to Dibiase! Muscle Buster to Punk! Choke! It's over, and Austin and Joe move on. ***1/2

1. The People's Shark d. Tres Count at 8:06 in a competitive, back and forth match, after Crazy missed his top rope moonsault and Rock hit a Rock Bottom for the pin as Shark took out Karagias. **3/4

2. Cal-Yonk Connection d. SmarkGasm at 34:57. The match went to a 30:00 draw, but the crowd chanted "five more minutes". It was announced that no more draws would be allowed and they must finish this match in the next 5:00 or both teams would be eliminated. The finish came as Bret Hart and Bryan Danielson traded an amazing mat sequence, ending with Danielson applying the Cattle Mutilation. Tommy Dreamer got the ref to occupy himself with Mr. Perfect, and then hit a Singapore cane shot to Danielson's chest. He scooped him up and hit a Spicolli driver, and rolled Bret on for the pin to end the match just in time. ***1/2

3. The Fat Liars d. Truth Test at 2:50 in another easy win for Eddie/Vader. Test and Killings put up a fight at the beginning, hitting a series of kicks and actually getting a two count on Eddie after Killings hit an axe kick. Test then set up the big boot on Vader, but Vader caught his leg and hit a monstrous clothesline. Powerbomb, frog splash, and Vader Bomb followed and its over. *1/2

4. Canadian Chrises d. Steve Austin/Samoa Joe at 21:19 in the match of the night. Great back and forth match with tons of stiffness. Cool spots include Jericho getting the Liontamer on Austin, only to meet a huge kick from Joe, Benoit countering a Muscle Buster into the crossface, and Austin/Joe doing a stomp a mudhole/bootscrape/facewash combo. The end came as Austin got poked in the eye by Jericho, leading to him stunning Joe on accident. Benoit/Jericho applied a double liontamer/crossface on Austin for the tapout (just like KOTR2001). ****

This sets up the semifinals!

1. Cal-Yonk Connection d. The People's Shark at 16:54 in a great match. Dreamer and Hart worked together flawlessly in this one, but Sharky and Rock did very well, too. Rock picked up Shark and flung him to the outside onto both opponents. Another cool double team move was a never before seen "spiked people's elbow", where Rock hit the elbow as Shark sprung off the ropes and double stomped down to add more impact. Silly move, and it got two on Dreamer as Hart dove in to make the save. Hart and Dreamer rallied, culminating with the much anticipated Hart/Rock face off. Rock Bottom is countered by elbows, Hart sweeps out the legs and tries the Sharpshooter but Rock reverses into his own! Bret is close to tapping...but reverses into HIS own Sharpshooter! On the outside Shark it put down by a DDT on the floor, and Rock has to tap! ***1/2

2. Fat Liars d. Canadian Chrises at 19:50. Nobody had given Eddie and Vader a match, but the Chrises did. The match started like many of Eddie/Vader's matches. Vader ran both guys over, and Eddie went for a frog splash, but the Chrises dodged it. Eddie was worked over by Benoit and Jericho, who went after his back and shoulder, looking for a submission. Jericho busted out some old moves like his double powerbomb move on Guerrero! He tried a third powerbomb, but Eddie countered to a tornado DDT and both were down. Hot tag leads to Vader vs. Benoit! Some of the stiffest chops and forearms EVER ensure. You thought Necro vs. Benoit was brutal? Both guys bust each other open hardway as they just trade vicious headbutts back and forth. Benoit takes Vader down into the crossface, reversing a powerbomb! Eddie makes the save, but Jericho dumps Eddie outside. Jericho accidentally hits a stepup enzuigiri on Benoit, Vader smashes him. Powerbomb to Benoit, Vader Bomb...FOOT ON THE ROPES! Second powerbomb! MOONSAULT! THREE COUNT! ****1/4

This sets up the finals!
