Bit of a pigeonhole you got yourself into, man.

The trick to creating new stars is that the fans have to want to love them with all their hear or hate them with all their guts. Desmond Wolfe's debut was one of the few times Ive seen in TNA where the heel debuted and the heat machine was on fire that night. Ive seen too many heels show up and at the very least get the "oh wow, he's here! that's awesome" reaction. So he's off to a decent start at least.

Santino's a hit in the WWE because his novelty wore off and they let the snowball run down the hill by allowing him to play up the boos. I never thought any of AMW would be worth anything post-AMW and I honestly believed Chris Harris would be the guy to be the singles star. I thought Miz sucked until they let him speak. I thought Booker was nothing more than a good tag team wrestler in WCW. Eric is making the most of an opportunity to become a huge heel. Even though it's a show, you don't let someone "lead" a stable unless you think they're a capable of being in a leading role just like you wouldn't let a D-List actor play the lead in the movie if you didn't think he can handle it.

Well, ECW didn't really have any wrestler with MAINSTREAM appeal because the company itself wasn't really MAINSTREAM to begin with. As much as I love RVD, being on the cover of High Times isn't exactly something that earns one the "star" label.

ECW made a lot of people and gave a lot of people that extra shove to be something that WCW, WWF, and other companies wouldn't let them be. Did they make Austin, Foley, and others into mega stars? No, but there were a lot of wrestlers who came out of there that people took a look @ once and maybe said "naw fuck that guy" but then after ECW they went "hey ya know we could do something with him".

ECW without a doubt made stars out of people. Wrestling stars. The Dudley Boyz, Tommy Dreamer, Sabu, etc were obviously never going to be mainstream stars. They did however make a lasting impression on the wrestling industry because of their time in ECW.

So yeah, toady....not even close...

Conversation was about TNA's need to build stars.

TNA is a mainstream company(at least they want to be), so "wrestling stars" aren't really going to be that useful.

Sorry if there's been some miscomunication, but Sabu and The Dudley Boyz aren't really who i think of when i use the word "star".

ECW made some guys more popular amongst die-hard fans, but they didn't make any real stars.

Not knocking the talent of any of the guys involved, but i thought we meant actual stars.

RVD was a star.

Taz could have been a star. Raven too.

ECW never single handedly made anyone else anything approaching a star, even if they had a hand in the evolution of a few.

You could argue that ECW made people who they are today, but never made them a "star." Thats pretty much it. Some could stretch that Stone Cold had a loose tongue because ECW let him. Austin 3:16 and his Mania match with Bret turned Austin into a star.

Perfect description.

ECW was like a development fed.
They didn't make any stars, but they found a lot of potential stars and allowed them to develop into good, well rounded wrestlers before they moved on to WWE.

I loved ECW, but they didn't have it in them to make genuine stars. They weren't on that level.
